Slavery − Addiction is likened to slavery − We use the temporary, pleasurable substance or activity to escape, but in reality you find that you are physically and emotionally enslaved (addicted) rather than free. − The trap of addiction is that it makes you feel free for a moment but in reality you become a slave to something else (addicted). − God has given us freedom from slavery but that freedom came at a cost. It cost the Son of God His life on the cross. • Physical addiction occurs when you repeatedly satisfy a natural appetite and desire with a temporary pleasure until you become the servant of it rather than its master.(Drug of choice your master) “Do you not know that if you present yourselves to anyone as obedient slaves, you are slave of the one whom you obey, either of sin, which leads to death, or of obedience which leads to righteousness? But thanks be to God, that you who were once slaves of sin have become obedient form the heart to the standard of teaching to which you were committed, and, having been set fee from sin, have become slaves of righteousness. I am speaking in human terms, because of your natural limitations. For just as you once presented your members as slaves to impurity and to lawlessness leading to more lawlessness, so now present your members as slaves to righteousness leading to sanctification.” Romans 6: 16-19.

As long as we keep looking for our true self in a world of conditional love, we remained hooked in a world of trying, failing and trying again. It is a world that fosters addictions because what it offers cannot satisfy the cravings of the heart. Our addictions make us cling to what the world proclaims as the keys to self fulfilment. These addictions create expectations that cannot but fail to satisfy our deepest needs.
