Typical rehabilitation (rehab) centres utilize multiple evidence-based interventions and treatment modalities.
Treatment usually includes the following: Medically supervised detoxification (detox) for patients at risk for/going through withdrawal.
Psychoeducation about the effects of drugs and alcohol on the body and brain. Physical examination and treatment for medical problems. Psychiatric evaluation and treatment for any co-occurring mental health issues. Nutritional counselling. Adjunctive therapies such as art, movement, or music therapy. Social workers to help with housing, financial, or legal issues. Group and individual counselling to help patients recognize denial and more fully understand how their addiction has impacted their lives. Motivational enhancement therapy and cognitive behavioural therapy are especially effective. Education about sober coping skills and sober fun. Education about coping with urges and cravings. Relapse prevention education and skills training to help patients identify their particular situations, feelings, or people associated with using and how to avoid/escape potentially dangerous situations. In-house and outside 12-step meetings. Family sessions to help process the impact of addiction on the family. Multi-family groups and/or family education to help loved ones better understand addiction, identify enabling behaviours, and prepare for the patient’s discharge from treatment. Discharge planning to ensure the patient is connected to outpatient drug and alcohol treatment, psychotherapy, psychiatry, 12-step meetings, Celebrate Recovery meetings or other appropriate resources.
At Healing Choices treatment and sober living we believe all these methods are useful but unless you have a spiritual awakening through connection with our heavenly Father and the Lord Jesus Christ, all efforts at recovery may prove to be unsuccessful. Addiction can be very overpowering and one needs a power greater than oneself to overcome addiction and its effects.
